(I) Beginner Sailing
Program
"Aye Mate, take the tiller…experience the joy, the
freedom and the excitement of Sailing!"
Take
the tiller of a 17 foot Hunter Sloop and let the wind fill the sails. You
will find sailing a challenging and rewarding sport with lots to learn on
shore and on the water. Plan to be sailing the very first day. The
Beginner Sailing Program curriculum includes these subjects:

Safety Aspects of Sailing: Physical fitness, PFD's, Attire… -
Environmental Awareness: Wind, Weather, Currents… - Sailboat Elements:
Sail Power, Boat Parts, Knots and Lines… - Sailing Skills: Upwind,
Downwind, Stopping, Docking… - Emergency Skills: Capsize Recovery,
Overboard Drill... - Rules of the Road: Right of Way…
Classes held Jun 5-11, Jun 19-25, Jul 10-16 & Jul 24-30
The
instructional materials are designed by the United States Sailing
Association. Participants receive 20 hours of land and on the water
instruction. Participants must be at least 14 years of age and provide
their own Coast Guard approved Type II or better Personal Floatation
Device as well as a 50 yard Red Cross or YMCA swim check provided prior to
first class. Included in the course fee are the US Sailing Textbook "Learn
Sailing Right" and the US Sailing "Little Red Book" to log your sailing
accomplishments. The Course Fee is $185. Class meets Saturday 8-5, then
Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 5:30-8:30 pm at the Lake Davenport Sailing Club, East

Introduction to Sailing Program
Should you be interested
in sailing, but you're not sure about what it takes or you don't have the
time to complete a full course, the Quad City Sailing School offers an
Introduction to Sailing program that provides you over an hour of "on the
water tiller time" giving you the exposure you may need to make a decision
on taking the full course. This program is available for $30 and is
available on a limited time basis. For more information, call Davenport
